The Cross You Must Carry: Answering the Call in These End Times

Have you ever thought about the weight of the cross Jesus carried? Not just the wooden beam that bruised His back but the weight of the world’s sin, the burden of love that led Him to surrender everything. Now, He calls us – not to carry a physical cross but to take up our own cross daily, denying ourselves for His sake (Luke 9:23).

But what does this really mean?

It means surrendering our desires, our comforts, and even our dreams when they stand in the way of His mission. It means saying no to self so we can say yes to Him. It means making room in our hearts and schedules to be workers in the great harvest, because Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)

The Harvest is Ready – But Where Are the Workers?

Look around you. We live in a world filled with broken hearts and desperate souls. People are running to addictions to numb their pain, drowning in loneliness, and carrying burdens of shame. The enemy has deceived many into thinking they can fill the emptiness with money, relationships, social status, or momentary pleasures. But deep inside, their hearts are crying out for something real.

And we – the called ones, the church, His chosen workers – are we too busy? Too distracted? Are we spending our days chasing earthly rewards while souls are perishing? The Lord grieves over His lost children, and He is asking us:

“Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8)

Dying to Self: The Cost of Answering the Call

Taking up the cross is not a one-time decision. It is a daily choice to crucify our selfish ambitions for the sake of the Kingdom. Maybe for you, it means:

  • Choosing to spend time in prayer and evangelism instead of another movie night.

  • Using your resources to support missions rather than accumulating more wealth.

  • Stepping out of your comfort zone to share Jesus with that co-worker or neighbor.

Jesus is coming back soon, and when He does, He will ask us how we spent our time. Did we bury our talents, or did we invest them in His Kingdom (Matthew 25:14–30)? Did we go after our own desires, or did we deny ourselves to follow Him?

The Time is Now – Will You Go?

The world is ready. Hearts are longing. The fields are white for harvest, but where are the workers? The Lord is calling you today – not tomorrow, not when life is more convenient, but now. He is asking you to step out in faith and be His hands and feet.

Are you willing to take up your cross daily and follow Him? Will you go where He sends you? One day, we will stand before Him, and may He say to us:

Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)

The choice is yours. Will you answer the call?
